10 Common Causes Of Dizziness

Nearly 40 percent of people who are over 40 experience dizziness in their lives. Dizziness is uncomfortable, but it is very common in adults. Vertigo is a more severe condition than ordinary dizziness, and it makes you feel like the whole room is spinning as you stand still. This is usually resulted from head movement or positioning. A few diseases of the balance organs found within the inner ear can lead to vertigo. Dizziness can range in severity from annoying to severe and debilitating.

Dizziness may indicate a more dangerous condition and should be discussed with a doctor, especially when it is chronic. Medical treatment varies according to the underlying cause of the dizziness. Most cases of dizziness are harmless, and the dizziness usually goes away on its own. However, it is necessary to visit the doctor because dizziness can sometimes be the only symptom of a serious disease that might be life-threatening.

Here let's take a look at 10 common causes of dizziness.

Causes Of Dizziness #1: Pregnancy

Dizziness is common in pregnant women. The rise in hormones that make blood vessels dilate, increases blood flow to the baby and also lowers blood pressure. Women who have varicose veins or are anemic can be more susceptible to dizzy spells. This is what causes temporary dizziness during pregnancy.

Another reason for dizziness during pregnancy is low blood sugar levels, which is caused by the body’s metabolism changes. This can occur in any trimester but is mostly seen in the first trimester, as the body is trying to adjust itself to the new pregnancy. Dizziness also often shows up in the second trimester of pregnancy when the uterus is expanding and putting pressure on surrounding blood vessels. In the third trimester, the baby's weight on your body will press into a large vein, namely the vena cava, and affect the blood flow from your lower body to your heart, also leading to dizziness.
